Circumstances Leading to Death - War Diaries of 15th & 16th Bn's Royal Warwicks
On the 23rd April the 15th Battalion moved into position to relieve the 16th Battalion RWR in Chaudiere, Cyril and other nearby trenches (see below) just SE of Avion and NW of Mericourt. The relief was completed by 1.30am on the 24th. During the day the trenches were subject to the normal low levels of sniper and machine gun fire. Cecil was one of 5 men killed that day at the end of which the battalion was relieved by the 38th Canadian Battalion and the 15th made its way to camp at Villers au Bois without any further casualties.![]() |
