Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
Unfortunately the there is a gap in the war diary between the 14th and 19th of July and we cannot say exactly when or how Thomas was wounded. He was taken to a Field Ambulance at Morlancourt which had been specifically placed there to treat the wounded from the Battle of the Somme, it also suggests that he died soon after being wounded. On the 20th July the Battalion were near the villages of Bazentine Petit and Bazentine Grande. During the actions the battalion suffered casualties of 22 killed, 147 wounded and 62 missing.
