Benjamin is listed as being killed in action on 10 Aug 1915. The 1st Battalion war diary for that day is transcribed below. 10th August 1915 - Canal Bank, Ypres: 3 men are killed & 7 wounded in the early morning by shell fire before relief of Bn is completed. Bn remains on Canal Bank W of Ypres during this day. 2/Lt Johnston, is wounded & has carried on with his duties, goes to Field Ambulance in the evening. At 8pm Battalion marches to Huts in wood between Vlamertinghe an Poperinghe. |
