Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary entry for the day Arthur is listed as being missing, 22nd March 1918, reads:
"Battalion entrained at Arques Station and proceeded to Guillaucourt by rail where it detrained and proceeded by march route to Chaulnes encamping there for the night". The diary does not list casualties by day but during March 1918 they suffered casualties of 35 killed, 174 wounded and 106 missing.
The Red Cross received an enquiry card seeking the whereabouts of Arthur stating that he was reported as missing on 22 March 1918. He had not been taken prisoner and it was later assumed he had been killed or died of wounds on the 22nd March. Please
