Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Ernest was killed on 29 Apr 1915 by a shell while working on strenghtening barbed wire defences. The war diary for the day states "Enemy fired one salvoe on trenches at about 11am another at 2.30pm and another at 9.30pm on wire party. The latter killed two and wounded three men".
