Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Bernard was wounded in the legs on 21 Mar 1918, the first day of the German Spring Offensive, when German high explosive and gas shells hit their positions in the Spur Quarry just SE of Villers-Faucon. He died the following day of those wounds and blood loss at the 34th Casualty Clearing Station, Marchélepot
