Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

On the day he was killed Bertram's battalion were in the front lines in the Greenland Hill sector NE of Fampoux. He was the only man killed that day by enemy shellfire landing on the battalion trenches, one other man was wounded.
