Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Joseph's battalion took part in the one day long Battle of Epehy. The evening before they made their way to the preliminary start off point at Saulcourt. On the day of the battle C Coy secured the Epehy-Villers Faucon Railway just SE of Epehy and then the battalion took up positions to the west of the railway and at zero hour they set off to capture 3 objectives up to 1,500 yards away in the direction N of Ronssoy. By 3pm the attack was over, with all objectives gained and the battalion dug in and consolidated their gain. The action cost the battalion 113 casualties including Joseph.
