Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

On the 10th Dec 1916 the Battalion had relieved the 7th Bn Worcestershire Regiment in the trenches in the Moquet Farm sector. On the 12th Dec it had snowed in the night and the enemy shelled Ravine and Regina trenches and C company took over a post from the 5th Warwicks in Hessian trench. A newspaper report in the Stratford Herald on 12 Jan 1917 states that Ernest was transport driver for the 2nd/7th and was killed by a shell while driving two mules laden with rations to the front.
