Thomas died of blood poisoning after sustaining a foot injury during training at Brandon Camp in Manitoba, Canada. He was due to be posted to Eygpt after his training. A results of a Medical Board found in Thomas's service file states that he suffered an injury at Saskatoon while C Squadron was stationed there. The injury was apparently as Incised Wound first appearing on sick report on January 17th. On arrival at Brandon on January 30th the wound was found to be in a Septic condition. It was treated in the Regimental Hospital until February 11th on which date he was moved to the Brandon General Hospital. He was from that time until the time of his death attended by Major Matheson and Capt. Latimer. On February 11th the Local Septic condition extended and a General Septicoema resulted. Several absecesses formed in different parts of the body and the patient finally died from Cardiac Insufficiency. The Board is satisfied that everything possible was done for the deceased. END |
