The battalion was involved in a succesful attack on German lines near Hamel and Beaucourt. They succeeding in taking 3 lines of enemy trenches before digging in and consolidating. The lack on information regarding trench names and locations means that we are unable to provide a trench map. Walter was one of four officers and thirtyseven other ranks who were killed during the operation along with 343 other casualties who were wounded, gassed or missing.
