The 13th Battalion war diary entries for the period 2nd to 4th January are transcribed below. La Rolanderie - 2 Jan 1916: Wind S to SW 20 miles per hour, some rain La Rolanderie - 3 Jan 1916: Wind 7.30am SW warm. Battalion relieved 12th Durham Light Infantry in trenched I.31.1-5. Trenches wet, condition of Salient at I.31.c.8.4 very wet. Casualties: 1 OR killed Trenches near La Rolanderie – 4 Jan 1916 – 7.30am: Wind S by SW. Considerable hostile artillery on both flanks during morning. 2.30pm: Our artillery made slight breech in enemy’s parapet opposite I.31.1. Casualties 1 OR wounded |
