Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Trevor is listed as being killed in action on 6 Oct 1917. The War Diary from that day is transcribed below:

In The Line – 6th: On the night of the 5th and 6th the 5th Dorsetshire Battalion relieved the 11th Ma Regt in the front line, our A & D Coy taking over the front line from 2 Coys of the Man Regt and C & B Coys taking over their support line from the two supporting Coys of the 11th Man Regt, our frontline extended from about V.20.a.1.8 to V.26.a.7.6. Our support line ran approx from V.19.d.2.3 to V.25.g.8.4. Both our frontline and supports were nothing more than consolidated shell holes and our Bttn HQ Was in a shell hole situated about V.25.b.3.7 (ref map Poelecappell).

During the day we had only very slight attention paid to us from enemy artillery, our chief trouble came from enemy snipers who had most of the country from our Bttn HQ to our frontline under complete observation. The place they paid more attention to than any other was Gloster Farm our two companies in the line had their Coy HQ end the farm for the first day, but owing to so many casualties there from snipers they moved into shell holes the next day. Our casualties were:

Killed 1 Off – Capt Stockwell G. – 5 O.R (including Trevor)
Died of wounds – 3 O.R
Wounded – 8 O.R. END
