Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

James is listed as being killed in action on 27 Jun 1916. The war diary for the period 26th to 29th June 1916 is transcribed below. It is not at all clear how James was killed.

Calonne 26/6/16 - 29/6/16: 'Relieved the 2nd Munsters in Calonne left sub-section at 6am and rejoined the 1st Infantry Brigade. D Coy was left out of the line to practice for a raid it had been arranged for it to carry out on the night of 5th July 1916'. END
