Circumstances of Death

Ralph died of Pnuemonia on 23 Nov 1918 at the 21st Stationary (Gladstone) Hospital in Sofia, Bulgaria. The following death notice was placed in the Stratford Herald on Friday 13th December 1918.

"On the 23rd ult of Pneumonia Private 126685 Ralph Wakefield Hodgkins, R.A.M.C, 21st Stationary Hospital with the Expeditionary Forces, Salonika, youngest son of the late William Wakefield Hodgkins of 1 Great William Street.

The shock was great, the loss severe
To part with one we loved so dear

Sadly mourned by mother, sister and brother".
