Circumstances of Death

Robert was discharged from the Army on July 17th 1915 by a Medical Board sitting at Warwick. They concluded that he was no longer fit to serve after being wounded by a gunshot wound to the hip at on 21 Apr 1915 and he was also suffering from Pulmonary Phthisis (TB). The board also concluded that Robert was infected by TB outside of active service and therefore he does not have CWGC Grave. On the day that Robert was wounded the 1st/7th Battalion where in the trenches at Steenbeke, no details of casualties are given in the battalion war diary. On 30th October 1916 Robert died of Pulmonary Phthisis (TB) and Marasmus (severe Malnutrition) at Warwick Infirmary in the presence of his father, Fred. His death certificate can be found below. |
