Circumstances of Death

James is listed as dying of wounds on the 23 Oct 1917. We are not certain when he was wounded but from the war diary we believe he was on a working party on the 22 Oct when two Other Ranks were wounded.

On 22nd October 1917 James was in the No 2 Casualty Clearing Station with gun shot wound to the head and a compound fracture of the arm. A medical report (see below) for that date reports a slight improvement in his Grave condition.
