George was originally listed as missing, but it was later accepted that he had died, on 26 Oct 1917. The war diary for that day is transcribed below and a map has been added to explain the map references. In the Field – 26/10/1917 Camp N.11.a.9.6 Parades – Inspection of Feet, feet rubbed with Whale Oil The Battalion furnished the following stretcher bearing parties as under:- 1 Officer and 100 other ranks proceeded to main Dressing Station, Voormezeele for subsequent duty at A D S Larch Wood. (Party furnished by C Coy) 1 NCO and 12 men to Head Quarters C Group RFA Beford House I.26.a.9.4 Casualties on 26-10-17 Wounded 10, Missing 3. END
