Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The Battalion were at the assembly point for an attack on enemy lines near Haspres and at 08.45 began to advance but their artillery support was late and landing 1 mile away and as they crested the high ground in front of them they were hit by machine gun and artillery fire and forced to abandon the attack with heavy casualties.
