Original Enlistment

From his service number, 1013, we can say that he enlisted at some stage between 13 Nov 1907 and 7 Mar 1908 when numbers 968 & 1029 were issued.

Circumstances of Death

Matthew is listed as dying of wounds on 22 Apr 1918. He died at the 13th Stationary Hospital which was 14km from the Military Hospital centre at St. Omer. He will have been evacuated more than 100km from the Calonne area where the battalion were based for most if not all of April 1918. The 2nd/7th Bn war diary does not list Matthew by name and we have not been able to identify the day on which Matthew was wounded.
