Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
In precis of the war diary the battalion had formed in an old German trench called Posen Street and were to be in support of an attack by 1st Brigade on the SW end of Hulloch. However the attack was held up by heavy artillery and machine gun fire and the enemy also sent down a very heavy bombardment onto the Posen Street trench system which caused casualties and when the Battalion's time to move into Hulloch they were immediately held up by heavy gun fire and forced to take positions in the original 1st Brigade front line trenches.
