Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

On the 3rd April 1918 the battalion marched from the area of Aubigny to Le Hamel with a three hour break at Hamelet. On the 4th April 1918 the 5th Bn were in the lines at Le Hemel when they came under attack from the enemy forcing both flanks to retire and create a defensive line south of Vaire. The war diary states that as a result of the attack Maj LaBOUCHERE was wounded and missing. In fact he had been wounded and taken prisoner and was taken to Soltau Prisoner of War (POW) Camp near Hanover where died of his wounds in the camp hospital.
