Circumstances of Death

Frederick was reported missing in action on 31 May 1918 and his death was later accepted as being on that day. It was clearly some time before his death was accepted as his parents wrote three separate letters to the Red Cross in August, September and finally in November 1918.

The war diary does not contain an entry for 31st May 1918 and the entries end on 30 May 1918 and start again on 1 June 1918 so at this stage we do not what happened, if Frederick went missing then it was likely to have been between 26th and 31st when the 8th Battalion MGC were near La Neuville
