Circumstances of Death

Reginald is listed as being killed in action on 9th October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. The 1st/9th Battalion war entries for the period 7th to 10th October are transcribed below

Fricourt – 7th Oct 1916: Battalion moved up at 7.15am into Divisional reserve SE of Ginchy and 7.15pm moved up to Hogs Back Trench to support 4th London Regt.

Hogs Back Trench – 8th Oct 1916: At 1am Battalion relieved 4th Londons & 12th Londons (Rangers) in Foggy and Bernaby trenches. At 3.30pm Battn attacked Green Line but were driven back at dusk to original line held by them.

Foggy & Bernaby Trenches - 9th Oct 1916: Battalion relieved by 1/Bn Royal Irish Fusiliers at 10.30pm & withdrew to Bernafay Wood [Fricourt].

Fricourt - 10th Oct 1916: Battalion withdrew to Mansell Court, Fricourt
