Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The details in the war diary are very limited. On the day John was killed his company were in or near the Piccadilly and Cambridge trench systems giving support to 45th Brigade. On the evening of the 1st they were subject of an enemy counter attack which was rebuffed. There was 10 casualties including John. The company then left the area and headed by train to Ecole.
