Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
We cannot be certain when Arthur was wounded but it does look as if it was on 9 Oct 1917, the same day he died. At that time the battalion were in the lines at Tower Hamlets which is directly west of Gheluvelt and were subject to regular shelling. On the 9th the battalion was involved in an attack on enemy lines which saw allies capture upto 1500 yards of territory which in turn caused the enemy to retaliate with an artillery bombardment.| Personal & Family History |
