- 9 May 1917 - Awarded his Flying Certificate having passed flying a Maurice Farman Biplane at Redcar

- 4 Jun 1917 - Confirmed in rank of Flight Sub-Lieutenant (Gazette)

Circumstances of Death

Reginald died on 10th November 1917 at Granton Hospital, Edinburgh from injuries received in aeroplane accident. An article in the Kenilworth Advertiser reported that "His end was a glorious one, for he sacraficed his life to avoid causing injury to some lads who were playing in the field which, owing to engine trouble, he was forced to land". The Fatal Air Accidents website states that Reginald was flying a Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c number 8724 based at RNAS, East Fortune when it dived into ground at Craiglockhart, Edinburgh. (Website). RNAS East Fortune was home to No 1 Torpedo Training Squadron, RNAS.
