Circumstances of Death
| Eric was one of 412 casualties who were aboard the SS Transylvania when it was sunk by a Torpedo fired by the German U-Boat SM U-63 while carrying allied troops from Marseille to Alexandria, Egypt. At the time it was being escorted by the Japanese destroyers Matsu & Sakaki and was hit 2.5 miles off Cape Vado near Savona in the Gulf of Genoa.
