Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The 7th Battalion arrived in Salonkia via Marsailles and Alexandria on 24 Nov 1915 and for the first few months they were engaged in training and by May they finished constructing the defensive line when they moved to Redan Camp where most of the men caught either dysentery or Malaria or both. On the 22nd July 1916 they started a march north to take over lines between Lake Doiran and the River Vardar which had been held by the French. The next few months were spent on patrols and capturing hills one by one with the odd raid on the Bulgar lines to capture prisoners.
Fred died on the first day of the Battle of the Cerna Bend and Monastir in Macedonia, further details are not yet known.
Originally buried in Janes Military Cemetery but his remains were moved to Sarigol in 1921/22
