Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

The 6th took part in attacks on the enemy lines during the 1st Battle of Ypres (Langemarck) near Oostaverne when Alastair was killed. He was in the trenches when he stood up to look through his field glasses when he was shot through the heart.
