Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The battalion took part in a wider action to capture the town of Ooteghem, the attack was partially successful but the part of the line where Sidney's battalion were positioned came under very heavy artillery and machine gun fire which held up there advance and the they were forced to form a defensive flank
