Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The battalion were in the middle of a fairly long 14 day stint in the trenches at Sucrerie near Mailly-Maillet. They were not involved in any battles and it was a relatively quiet time with very few casualties. Alfred was the only casualty of the day
