Alias
For reasons as yet unknown Joseph served the whole war under the alias of Thomas Williams, he gave his place of birth as Chadsmore, Staffs. In 1911 Joseph was serving in the 2nd Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regt and we can only summize that the alias was in some way related to his previous service.
Previous Ill Health
On 2 Jan 1918 Joseph was admitted (under name Thomas Williams) to the No 2 General Hospital as Le Havre, France with a Haematocele. On 7 Jan 1918 he was discharged to a sick convoy, presumably back to the UK where he was serving when he died just under 7 months later. The medical record can be found below, click to expand. |
Circumstances of DeathJoseph died on 8 Jul 1918 at the Military Hospital, Prees Heath, Whitchurch, Shropshire of a Neoplasm of the Pancreas and Heart Failure. We do not know if the Neoplasm was in anyway linked to the Haematocele, nor do we know if he was evacuated from Le Havre to Whitchurch, or whether the two incidents are completely unrelated. Joseph's death certicate can be found below, click to expand. |
