Harry is listed as being killed in action on 28 Aug 1918, the battalion war diary entry for that day, transcribed below, shows that he was killed during the operational relief of the 4th Canadian Mounted Regiment at Biory Notre Dame. Lawrence Camp 28/29 Aug 1918: Orders received early that Bridage would embuss at 2pm. Morning spent in preparation. Details formed. The Assaulting portion of the Battn embussed at 1.30pm. Divisional Details also proceeded by bus to Arras. Transport proceeded by route march to Faub St Saveur. The Battn debussed at Blangy. From here they marched to the Assembly area immediately east of Wilderness Camp. Half an hours rest was then allowed. At 7.45pm the Battn moved forward advancing in Artillery Formation between Monchy and the Arras-Cambrai Road. Very dark night. Considerable difficulty in keeping direction. Battalion assembled in trenches west of Bois du Beet. From here they moved to Railway running north of Bois du Veet, followed railway to western outskirts of Biory Notre Dame, where Canadian guides were met. Battn relieved 4th C.M. Regt. Relief completed shortly before dawn on the 29th. Dispositions - 2 Coys in Lady Lane from O.5.d.2.8 to its junction with Long Lane. 2 Coys just east of Boiry Lane. Battn HQ at O.1.a.4.5. Considerable harrassing fire on march up. Casualties: 2nd Lt R.R. Powell and about 20 O.R. wounded. Troops very tired. |
