Meritorious Service Medal (MSM)

Hubert was awarded (Gazette) the Meritorious Sevice Medal on 17 Jun 1918 the Citation for which reads:- 
"His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Meritorious Service Medal to the undermentioned Warrant Officers, Non-commissioned Officers and Men, in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Forces in France during the present war".  

Circumstances of Death

Hubert is listed as dying of wounds on 8 Oct 1918 and was buried at Rocquigny-Equancourt Road cemetery which was used for burials by the 3rd Canadian and 18th Casualty Clearing Stations.

We have not been able to establish on which day Hubert was wounded and can only summise that it was prior to 1 Oct 1918 as after that time the battalion were not in front lines - see below. The Battalion were involved in a large operation between 25th and 30th September the report about which can be read by clicking here (PDF).

Ytres 1st-8th Oct 1918: Battalion remains in rest in Brigade Reserve at Ytres. No reports of casualties

Ytres 9th Oct 1918: Battalion moved to Vauxelles. No reports of casualties
