Military Service History

1915 - Gallipoli - Robert is not listed amongst the men who were part of the original contingent at Gallipoli Contingent (14.8.15) - so he would have initially remained behind in Egypt to look after the horses although he could well have found himself going to Gallipoli as a replacement later that year in a draft, but there are no records to that effect. (Click for more)

1917 - The Affair at Huj - Robert is also not listed as a confirmed charger for 'The Affair at Huj' (8.11.17) and so he would have been with the balance of the Regiment which was watering their horses some miles back at the point when the charge went in. He would have arrived on the battlefield later that day. (Click for more)

1918 - The Sinking of the Leasowe Castle - Robert survived the sinking of the troopship Leasowe Castle on 27 May 1918. (Click for more)
