The Stratford Herald reported on 11 Jan 1918 as follows:

"This gallant young fellow, who was well known in Snitterfield and Stratford on Avon, was accidentally killed at a clearing station [see above] in France on 12th December. He enlisted in Canada about 2 years ago and was at the time of his death in the Second Canadian Machine Gun Company. He took part in the Battle of the Somme and afterwards in other engagements and suffered a slight wound. He spent a shot holiday with his mother in Ingon in December last and it was shortly after his return that he was accidentally killed. He was the youngest son and aged 29".
