Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary for 2 Jun 1917 states that 236th Brigade were in the field ay Ypres when they supported allied actions by firing trench mortars and harrassing fire on enemy tracks and communication trenches. The enemy retaliated with "a few rounds" one of which killed William plus one other man and wounded two others.
NB. Both the Warwickshire Roll of Honour and Southam Heritage Collection state that Thomas was killed in action at Barlin, however the 236th Brigade RFA were in Barlion 2 Jun 1916 not 1917.
