Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The war diary is very vague and rarely makes mention of casualties among the "other ranks". The most likely time for Thomas to have been wounded is after the 14th August when the battalion arrived at Danoutre and occupied either the trenches or were engaged in working parties while in reserve. Dranoutre is close to Bailleul where he is buried. Bailleul was the site of 7 Military Hospital/Casualty Clearing Stations.
