Circumstances of Death

Albert is listed as being killed in action on 28th August 1918. The 2nd/2nd London Regiment war diary entries for the period 26th to 29th August 1918 are transcribed below.

Death Valley, Bronfay Farm 26 Aug 1918: Battalion in close support to 3rd Bn London Regiment who attacked and captured their objectives which included Maricourt and the old British Front Line extending from NE corner of Maricourt Wood to 62C.A.23.a.60.60.

27 Aug 1918: No entry was made in the war diary on this day

Death Valley - 28 Aug 1918: Battalion was relieved as follows: Right half of sector by the 9th London Regt and left half by 4th Suffolk Regt (Pioneers). Battalion withdrew and proceeded via Maricourt, main Bray Road, Bronfay Farm to northern slope of Death Valley.

Death Valley - 29 Aug 1918: Battalion bivouaced in Death Valley.

Casualties: Officers 2 killed & 6 wounded. Other Ranks 375.
