He carried out a dangerous reconnaissance and furnished a most valuable report on the situation. He has on many previous occasions carried out valuable reconnaissance work. Click here for the London Gazette Entry Circumstances of DeathReginald is listed as being killed in action on 12th August 1917. The 6th Division General Staff war diary entries for the 11th & 12th August are transcribed below. Reginald's obituary on the Winchester College website states that Reginald was killed while escorting a Sergeant of the US 27th Division on a visit to the front line at an advanced post near Hooge. Douglas Camp – 11th August 1918 - 3.26am: Heavy enemy barrage extending from Kemmel to centre of right Battalion, infantry active followed unsuccessfully by attempt to retake lost ground. Prisoners taken by 41st Division belonged to 240 [German] Infantry Regiment, 52nd Reserve Division. Divisional Commanders Conference – Present B.G.C.s 16th, 18th & 71st Brigades. OC M.G. Battalion, G.S.O I & II [Reginald] - subjects discussed – training in forward area, enemy ruses, further counter attacks. Douglas Camp – 11th August 1918: Counter preparation in early morning. Major R.W. Barnett G.S.O II killed by enemy sniper near Vierstrat Road. G.O.C, G.S.O I & Lt Col Milward attended Tank demonstration near St. Pol. |
