Circumstances of Death

On 7 Oct 1915 Ernest died of wounds aboard HMHS Karapara and was buried at sea. We have read through the war diary from the time that the 58th Brigade started landing at Anfarta Bay, Gallipoli on 9 Aug 1915 until the day of his death and we have not been able to indentify the day and/or place that Ernest was wounded. The war diary has been transcribed by the 58th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery website and can be seen here.

The Coventry Herald reported at the time that he had received a severe wound to the abdomen.
