Thomas is listed as being killed in action on 11 Jun 1917, the war diary for that day is transcribed below and from it we can see that he was killed by shell fire and was the only man killed that day.
Ypres Salient - I.33.a - 11/6/17: Enemy shelled all day in I.27.c.6 & I.33.a&b. B/104 have OR (Thomas) kiiled and 2 OR wounded. One man of Brigade HQ wounded. Col Nicholson visits the wagon line. Batteries shooting at any movement they can observe.
