Circumstances of Death

Sidney is listed as being killed in action on 5th April 1918. In March 1918 U Battery RHA had become part of the 16th Army Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery. We have located the war diary for the unit and confirmed from it that U Battery were indeed part of 16th Army Brigade however the diary does not give any information regarding the circumstances leading up to Sidney's death. They were located at various places on the Somme throughout March, April and May. The National Archives reference number for the War Diary is WO/95/455/2 should anyone wish to research it further (we would be grateful for any new information). |
