Antrobus is listed as being killed in action on 19th March 1916 and the 1st Battalion war diary entry for that day is transcribed below. near Hooplines/Armentieres - 19 Mar 1916: About 6am enemy opened fire with Trench Mortars on to 88 and 89 trenches, and 89 S and 86 and 87 trenches were shelled by enemy 7.7cm guns. Conditions became quiet about 7am and after our artillery had retaliated on enemys’ trenches. Conditions remained quiet for the rest of the day. 2/Lt A.T. Harris was killed by bullet while in charge of a working party during the evening. Casualties: Other ranks 3 killed and 7 wounded. |
