Circumstances of Death

Frederick is listed as being killed in action on 28 Mar 1918 during the German Spring Offensive.

The Brigade War diary shows that following the massive attack to start the German Spring Offensive on 21st March the 331st Brigade was constantly on the move and had moved from Brusle to Brie to Chuignes to Morcourt to Warfusef to Villers Bretonneux before stopping at Moreuil and then Jumel on the day that Frederick was killed, it is assumed during contact of some sort with the enemy. The war diary entry for 28 Mar 1918 is transcribed below:-

Moreuil - 28 March 1918: Transport lines marched to Moreuil but only remained there a few hours, orders received to clear the village at once, and transport lines Marched to Jumel remaining there the night. END
