Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Hiram is listed as dying of wounds on 3 Jun 1917 at the 19th Casualty Clearing Station near Duisans. The war diary for late May and early June contains scant information the the period 29th May to 3rd June is transcribed, in full, below and from it we are assuming that Hiram was wounded on the 2nd June.

29th - 31st May: Relieved the 1st NFLD [Newfoundland Regiment] in the same sector of the firing line as before [N36]. END

1st June: In the trenches - Heavy bombardment on the Devils trench by our heavies

2nd June: In the trenches - Great Artillery and Aircraft activities, we had a few casualties.

3rd June: Relieved from trenches by King's Liverpool Regt. END
