Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary places the battalion at St. Gratien and mentions that on the 8th Aug 1918 the battalion supported an operation involving Australian and Canadian Corps. It also mentions a report on the actions that day but it is not included in the battalion diary. On the day the Australian & Canadian Corps were involved in the first day of the Battle of Amiens when they successfully attacked German position to the east if Villers-Brettoneux. William was killed at some stage during these operations and was one of 5 men killed along with 44 wounded and 5 missing.
