Circumstances of Death

George died on 13th November 1915 of a gunshot wound to the leg and septic pneumonia at the 2nd Southern General Hospital, Southmead, Bristol. The death certificate states that he had been wounded for 22 days and therefore was wounded on 22nd October 1915.

The 1st Battalion war diary shows the following information about casualties on or about the 22nd October and reveals that Walter was accidentally wounded in trenches at Suzanne on 23rd October 1915.
