Circumstances of Death

Jesse is listed as being killed in action on 1 February 1918. The very brief 2nd/5th War diary entries for the period 31st January to 2nd February are transcribed below and it seems that he was killed during a raid on the front lines by enemy forces.

Fresnoy le Petit - 31 Jan 1918: Battalion in front line. Lt Col Coates re-assumed command upon returned from leave in Paris.

Fresnoy le Petit - 1 Feb 1918: Enemy raided on No 1 Post & were successfully repulsed leaving one prisoner.
